ePBI
PBI made easy and quick
What is the ePBI
ePBI is an instrument for dermatological patients and their physicians based on the Patient Benefit Index (PBI).
The PBI is used in experimental dermatology to evaluate the efficacy and safety of drugs used for the treatment of psoriasis, while patient reported needs and benefits are collected. It can also be gathered for quality assurance and shared decision making. ePBI is available as a mobile application for Android and iOS devices, as well as a web-based online calculator.
Assessing the ePBI
Before treatment the patient completes the Patient Needs Questionnaire (PNQ) and after starting a treatment - the Patient Benefit Questionnaire (PBQ). A score is then assigned to each answer with which the final index (PBI) can be calculated.

The index range is between 0 (no patient relevant benefit) and 4 (maximum patient relevant benefit).
The ePBI Score
1) Importance of treatment goals
With the help of the following questions, we’d like to know how important the below mentioned goals are to you personally in the current treatment.
For each of the following statements, please mark how important this treatment goal is to you. If a statement does not apply to you, e.g. because you do not have pain, please mark “does not apply to me“.

2) Treatment benefits
Please fill in the type of treatment for skin disease that you are currently undergoing (or which you underwent last):
Treatment: _____________________________ Since when?: _____________________
O No treatment of skin disease over the last 12 months (→ please continue on the next page!)
3) Treatment benefits
Please mark for each of the following statements how well the goals of the current treatment have already been met and how beneficial the treatment has been. If a statement did not apply to you, e.g. because you had no pain, please mark “did not apply to me”.

About Patient Reported Outcomes
“A PRO is any report of the status of a patient’s health condition that comes directly from the patient, without interpretation of the patient’s response by a clinician or anyone else.”
“Use of a PRO instrument is advised when measuring a concept best known by the patient or best measured from the patient perspective. […] PRO instrument adequacy depends on its role and relationships with other clinical trial endpoints as depicted in the endpoint model.”
